All American Week - Division Run

It's "All American Week" for the 82nd Airborne Division here at Ft. Bragg!  All American Week is a traditional celebration that the 82nd has hosted for several years.  However, this is the first year since 2006 that the entire divsion has been home to participate.  Here's what some of what our local newspaper, The Fayetteville Observer, had to say about All American Week:

This year's theme is "Living the Legacy - Back to Basics."  "Those who came before us set a high standard that we continue to emulate," said Maj. Gen. Jim Huggins, the commanding general of the division.

The week gives active-duty paratroopers a chance to honor and meet veterans. The troopers will compete in a variety of athletic and Airborne contests.  Most of the division's 22,000 paratroopers will participate in division review, with troopers in formation on Pike Field. There also will be a memorial ceremony and a joint operational access demonstration.

The division typically celebrates its heritage and welcomes back its veterans the week before Memorial Day. However, large-scale troop deployments have caused the week to be cut back or not held several times in recent years.

The week usually begins with a division run on Monday, sporting events and socials throughout the week, and the division review on Thursday.

We started out the week by heading down to the division run at 6:00 this morning! And even for this "not a morning person" momma it was pretty fun! Of course having "Miss Denise" and "Mr. Chris's mom" come with us made it all the more enjoyable! :) The run started at 6:30 on the dot and watching 22,000 soldiers run past us on Longstreet was quite the sight to behold! I made a video of when John's brigade ran past us - you'll have to excuse my hootin' and hollerin' for John's battalion! We cheered our hearts out for 2P! :)

Later this week we will attend a 2P picnic, the Division Pass and Review, and on Friday the Division jump.  Check back for more videos and pictures!  :)
